Weekly Announcements

Art Exhibit and Silent Auction: Don’t forget, all artwork must be received TODAY. All of the artwork will be on display in the concourse from Dec. 6 – 20 and available for purchase via a silent auction, with a few items also available at a fixed price. All proceeds will benefit benefit Winter Park Elementary School, so be sure to swing by and check it out!

Advent 2020: Advent is right around the corner, and because we’re approaching it in the midst of such a strange and unpredictable year, our theme will be “Finding Bethlehem in the Midst of Bedlam”! Each week, we’ll examine how we can model the spirit of Christmas in a world that often embraces a spirit of chaos. Paul will be basing the sermons on Scriptures and thoughts presented in Finding Bethlehem in the Midst of Bedlam, by James W. Moore. The book contains five short chapters and five weeks’ worth of devotional readings. If you would like to order a print or Kindle copy to follow along with the sermons and use as a guide for your Advent devotions, you can do so here.  Whether it’s from your home in town, inside the church, or over the river and thru the woods at Grandma’s, we hope you’ll join us as we excitedly await the arrival of Jesus this Advent!

Hanging of the Greens: Save the date! Hanging of the Greens will take place in the sanctuary at 6pm on Wednesday, Dec. 2. In order to abide by the appropriate safety precautions, the event may look a little different than in year’s past, but will be just as meaningful as we progress into the Advent season. Stay tuned for additional details, and don’t forget to mark your calendars!

Gingerbread Houses: At the conclusion of the Hanging of the Greens service, Gingerbread Houses to take home and decorate will be available for families and children. Don’t forget to pick one up at the end of the service, and we can’t wait to see your creations!

Art Exhibit and Silent Auction: Did you snag a few pieces of the steeple remnants to create a work of art? Maybe some wood, metal, or a flat sheet on which to paint? Don’t forget, all artwork must be received TODAY, as the auction and “ornament store” will be open from Dec. 6 to Dec. 20. All proceeds will benefit Winter Park Elementary!

Called Business Meeting: This past Sunday at the Church Council meeting, the Personnel Committee submitted some proposed changes to three of our staff members’ job descriptions. These included a few minor updates to Allison and Mike’s job descriptions, and a revised description of the position Russell now fills. The proposed job description changes may be viewed online here, as well as will be available for congregational review next week at the Winter Park Office (Nov. 30 – Dec. 4). Per our governing documents, in order to be finalized, these changes must be voted on by the congregation after passing through Church Council. Therefore, we will hold a called Church Business Meeting at the end of both services on Sunday, December 6. As with the budget, church members who worship with us online will be able to vote virtually.

Let’s Go to Costa Rica: On July 10-16, 2021, an adult team will be going to Costa Rica to serve alongside our sisters and brothers at Casa del Nuevo Pacto in the Guanacaste province. If, after praying about participating, you would like to sign up or learn more, please contact Mike Womble (mike@winterparkbaptist.org) or Lance Rogerson (lance@winterparkbaptist.org). Our first informational meeting will be January 10, and a $200 deposit will be due February 1.

Online Registration: Registration goes live online at noon on Sundays, with our Contemporary service at 8:30am in the Community Center and traditional service at 11am in the Sanctuary. Each service will be limited to the first 125 participants, with additional space available in an overflow room as needed. To register online, click here. To register by phone, please call Serena at the Winter Park Office, Monday-Friday between 9am-4pm. We can’t wait to you see you again next Sunday!
