What to Expect

Music

We sing a blend of lyrically rich songs both recent and historic. On most Sundays, we sing more recent songs at the 8:30am service (accompanied by a full band), and then at the 11am service, we sing songs steeped in history (accompanied by a piano, organ, and choir). However, we do change it up from time to time, and those of us who are comfortable with music from one particular era have discovered that we come to enjoy songs from other eras. In both services, we encourage congregational singing, which emphasizes the gathered body enthusiastically singing praise to God with one voice.

Sermon

As a time of teaching and encouragement, we typically include a sermon during each worship service, with the sermon being the same at both services. Sometimes the sermon is expository, and other times it addresses a specific thread or theme found throughout Scripture. We find both forms of teaching useful in building up the Body, and we encourage participants to take notes for later reflection and discussion with friends and family.

Small Group Bible Studies

At 9:45am on Sunday, several different groups gather to read Scripture, discuss a variety of topics, and pray for one another. We highly value life together and believe that we all have something to contribute, thus our small groups are an essential part of plugging in at Winter Park. The makeup of each group varies, as some are organized by age and gender, others function by life circumstances, and yet others are a hodge podge of people who just like each other. If you have questions about small groups, please ask a member of our welcome team on Sunday mornings or call the Winter Park Office during the week.

What to Wear

Deuteronomy 22:11 says, "Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together," so there's that.  But we should probably talk more if that's on your mind, and one of our small groups would be great place to do that :-) Otherwise, the whole "What should I wear?" question is common for those exploring churches, thus we'll answer it succinctly - come as you are.

What about children?

Worship Opportunities

Worship Care for Preschoolers is available for Infants through PreK during both the 8:30am and 11:00am services every Sunday, and Children's Church is available for K-2nd Graders during the 8:30am worship service. Worship Boxes containing a variety of activities are available for all boys and girls to use during both services.

Age Appropriate Activities

Age-graded Sunday School classes are offered for boys and girls, birth through 5th grade, every Sunday morning at 9:30am. On Wednesday nights during the school year (September through May), boys and girls, birth through 5th grade, participate in Bible study and choir, as well as Children's Handbells for 2-5th graders. Bible School, camps, retreats, and seasonal activities round out the calendar of events for children.

Check-in Procedures

On Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights, parents with preschoolers, birth through Pre-K, enter the church on the Park Avenue side of the building. At the Preschool Registration desk, parents will sign in their preschoolers who will then be taken by Winter Park volunteers to their classrooms. Parents will also pick up their preschoolers at the Preschool Registration Desk. Winter Park Safety and Security procedures require that classes for boys and girls be staffed by two non-related adults who have successfully completed criminal background screens and met additional requirements set out in the policy.
